Vitamin C has proven to be a valuable weapon in the battle of aging. If you’re not using a vitamin C serum in your skincare routine, you may want to think about adding this powerful anti-aging ingredient.

Vitamin C benefits the skin in two important ways:

  • It is essential for the synthesis of collagen, a key structural protein of the skin. Adding vitamin C to a culture of skin cells (fibroblasts) dramatically increases the synthesis of collagen.
  • It is an antioxidant and can help reduce skin damage caused by free radicals. So, when vitamin C is properly delivered into skin cells, there is a good chance to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture, even lighten brown spots.

The tricky part is that Vitamin C is unstable. When it is exposed to air, light or other oxidizing agents, Vitamin C becomes unstable and oxidizes making it incapable of administering all those fantastic anti-aging advantages. That’s why it’s so important to buy the RIGHT Vitamin C serum.

Mario Badescu Vitamin C serum ($45) is packaged in a dark green glass bottle to keep it safe from light and with an eyedropper to allow for the least amount of time the serum is exposed to the air. Smart! I use 2-3 drops on my face and neck every night. MB suggests using the serum every other night but I’ve been using it every night with great results. The texture is thicker than a normal serum–it feels more like a light oil but it absorbs well. It does feel tacky for a few minutes so you need to let it “set” a bit if adding a moisturizer on top. Since it does contain hyaluronic acid and I have only slightly dry skin, I don’t need an additional moisturizer but if you have dry or very dry skin you may need one for night time use.

Another consideration when buying a Vitamin C serum is the concentration of Vitamin C. Mario Badescu’s Vitamin C serum contains 7.5% Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C) in it’s serum. Anything less will probably not be effective topically.

Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Ascorbic Acid,Cucumber (Cucumis Sativus Fruit) Extract,Ginseng (Panax Ginseng Root) Extract, Aloe Vera Gel, Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid,Lavender Oil

This serum makes my skin feel soft, has improved the texture and has generally evened out my skin tone as well as calmed down the redness in my cheeks. My skin looks clear and bright! I test a lot of skincare products and unfortunately my use of this serum was interrupted by another product. The good news is that sometimes discontinuing use of a product and then restarting can really point out the effectiveness of the product. Such was the case with Mario Badescu’s Vitamin C serum. After just two days of re-starting the serum my skin had drastically improved and really did look radiant! My skin tone is bright and looks flawless with makeup!

Bottom Line: Mario Badescu Vitamin C serum is well a researched and effective Vitamin C serum that will make your skin glow! A great addition to every woman’s anti-aging arsenal. I’m loving it!
